to Create Top-Tier Destination for LGBT Online Audience
New
York, NY - June 8, 2006 - Logo, a division of Viacom
Inc’s (NYSE: VIA and VIA.B) MTV Networks, today announced
it has acquired three leading LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and
transgender) entertainment and news websites: 365Gay.com,
AfterEllen.com and AfterElton.com.
Joining with LOGOonline.com,
the combination of targeted sites will exponentially grow Logo’s
online audience and create a portfolio of popular destinations
for LGBT news and entertainment on the Web.
The newly created online union reflects Logo’s
continually expanding footprint across cable television, portable
media devices, wireless phones and broadband online, through partnerships
with top established media providers. Together, Logo’s online
and on-air properties will be one of the most effective and efficient
ways for advertisers to reach targeted LGBT audiences across multiple
platforms.
“The addition of these best in breed sites
continues to cement Logo’s role as the leading LGBT entertainment
source in the living room, at an Internet cafe on the other side
of the world, and everywhere in between,” said Lisa Sherman,
Senior Vice President and General Manager of Logo.
“These companies were created by some of
the most innovative and agile gay and lesbian pioneers, and we're
honored they're uniting with Logo,” added Brian Graden,
President, MTV Networks Music Group Entertainment; and President,
Logo.
Adding these sites to Logo and to the overall
MTV Networks family of targeted entertainment destinations is
part of MTVN’s ongoing strategy to superserve its audiences
with relevant and innovative content. Along with MTVN's recent
purchases of XFIRE, Gametrailers.com, iFILM and Neopets, these
online media acquisitions illustrate MTVN's focused and continued
commitment to being the leading multi-platform entertainment company
across every screen consumers use.
“Bringing relevant brands and creative voices
like these into our company is at the heart of our digital strategy,”
said Judy McGrath, Chairman and CEO, MTVN. “I'm very happy
to have them join our family as we continue to expand our online
universe of music, gaming, entertainment, interactivity and news.”
Acquired
under the Erosion Media banner, AfterEllen.com and AfterElton.com
are two of the nation's leading LGBT entertainment websites specifically
for the lesbian and gay male audience, respectively. The acquisition
of Erosion Media will marry LOGOonline.com's authentic content
and largest LGBT-themed online video library with Erosion’s
popular LGBT entertainment sites.
“Our loyal fan base is a terrific match for Logo's authentic
programming, so this is a perfect marriage,” said Sarah
Warn, co-founder of Erosion Media, who will continue her responsibilities
as an executive producer at Logo.
The addition of 365Gay.com brings one of the Web's
leading around-the-clock LGBT news sources under the Logo umbrella,
complementing CBS News on Logo daily reports.
“By
joining Logo, 365Gay.com will continue to grow, ensuring it remains
America's number-one LGBT choice for news and information,”
said founder Rob Sands who will remain as a consultant. “In
addition, 365Gay.com readers will now get access to Logo's landmark
entertainment content. We're thrilled to play a crucial role in
Logo's emergence as America's leading LGBT news and entertainment
source.”
